About Us
The Jacaranda Highland dancers have lessons every week in Coffs Harbour &
Grafton.
Monday afternoons we meet at the Boambee Hall just off the Highway South of
Coffs Harbour with lessons starting from about 4p.m.
Wednesday afternoons we meet at the Presbyterian Church Hall in Wharf Street South Grafton.
Lessons start there from about 4p.m. as well.
Occasionally there is a need for the Coffs branch of the studio to travel to
Grafton for lessons & vice versa. This is necessary to get the Dancers
together if they are preparing for a choreography performance. These special
lessons are organised in advance & Kristina will let Dancers know if they
are required for these lessons or performances.
Competitions are a big part of what we do. Whilst they are not compulsory it is advisable that dancers do some competitions over the year. They add a lot to Studio "togetherness" & a road trip to a Comp is always great fun. It is really nice to see the more experienced dancers looking out for the less experienced dancers & helping them get ready for comps both in dress & in their dances running through steps with them before they go on. There are many Comps that the dancers can go to both locally & away. Mostly our away comps are in Brisbane which makes for a nice weekend away.
Displays add a community component to what the dancers do. Jacaranda Highland Dancers have been involved in a wide variety of displays. These range from Town Markets, School Fete's & Nursing Homes to Festivals & Concerts. The dancers attend both the Glen Innes Celtic Festival, The Inverell Sapphire Festival & the Maclean Highland Gathering. In the past the Dancers have also developed a display specifically for the Bonnie Wingham Festival. All of these displays have benefited both the local commiunities & the dancers who give so much of their time for such displays.
Whilst the serious side to Highland Dancing is the Competitions, we do try to have casual get togethers & make traveling for displays as much fun as possible. The highlight of the year is generally our end of year Christmas party where everyone gets together for a day of sun, surf & sand. A great day is usually had by everyone.
